The Romanian Model 89 SPG

The vehicle consists of a modified Romanian MLI-84 hull and a licence built Bulgarian turret of the Russian M1974 2S1 122mm.

The vehicle uses a V8 supercharged diesel engine, which generates 360hp. This provides a top road speed of 65km/h and range of 500km.

The 122m main gun can be elevated from -3 to +70 degree’s and the turret has a full powered 360 degree traverse. It has a range of 15.3km for HE rounds and 21.9km with rocket assisted rounds.

The vehicle uses a 5 man crew who have protection from MG fire and NBC protection system.

42 of these systems which are in service alongside six of the Russian equivalent system, the 122 mm 2S1 self-propelled howitzer. Recent information has indicated that only 18 of these model 89 122 mm self-propelled howitzers remain in service.
